Using Dynamic Variable Tags

Using Dynamic Variable Tags

A variable tag is a placeholder that dynamically inserts personalized information when the template is used. Any unbracketed words in ALLCAPS indicate a dynamic variable tag. In a template, anything in bracketed [ALL CAPS] indicates text that needs to be manually replaced by the person sending the message.

Use of Variable Tags to automatically insert the facility or unit names etc. in your message. By inserting these variables, the message will change depending on which facility/unit the resident is associated with in your EHR.

Variable tags can include:

  • FACILITYNAME
  • UNITNAME
  • FLOORNAME
  • ROOMNAME
  • FIRSTNAME
  • LASTNAME

NOTE: FIRSTNAME and LASTNAME will populate the resident name. Not the recipient’s name.

Inserting A Variable Tag

To use a variable tag in a message or template, simply:

  • Open a template or start a new message
  • Filter your audience
  • Click your cursor in the message content where you want the variable tag. A black plus sign should appear in the top right-hand corner. Click it.
  • A pop-up will appear showing all the variable tags you have available to you. Simply click the one you want and it will appear in the message
  • Hit Save
  • Your template will now have that variable tag saved
