At Cliniconex, our commitment to community extends beyond the healthcare sector and into the heart of our local neighbourhood. This ethos is embodied in our Cliniconex Gives Back program, a quarterly initiative that allows our team to make a tangible difference by volunteering and making a donation to a cause that is meaningful to us.
This quarter, the Cliniconex team had the privilege of giving back to Holly’s Haven Wildlife Rescue (HHWR), an organization dedicated to caring for and rehabilitating orphaned and injured wild animals. The day was not just about hard work; it was a testament to the power of community, compassion, and a shared desire to protect the vulnerable creatures that share our world.
The Cliniconex Gives Back Program
The Cliniconex Gives Back program is a cornerstone of our company culture. It’s a chance for our employees to step away from their daily tasks and engage in meaningful, hands-on work that benefits a local organization. This program has seen our team support various important causes in the past, from The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre to the Kanata Food Cupboard, demonstrating a broad and consistent commitment to community well-being. This recent volunteer day at Holly’s Haven was a perfect example of this in action, offering a unique blend of physical labour and heartwarming encounters.
A Day of Hands-On Volunteering

Other team members focused on building new enclosures for future animal residents, a construction project that provided a safe and comfortable space for recovery. We also helped clear out sheds, organizing supplies and creating a more efficient workspace for the dedicated staff and volunteers at HHWR. Every task, no matter how small, was a crucial piece of the puzzle, and seeing the immediate impact of our efforts was incredibly gratifying.
But the true highlight of the day came when we were introduced to some of the wildlife under Holly’s Haven’s care. We were fortunate enough to see the newest arrivals, including several baby raccoons and skunks, each one a tiny testament to the tireless work of the rescue.
The most memorable encounter, however, was with Cedar, a blind baby moose. Seeing these animals up close and learning their stories made the physical work feel even more meaningful. It was a powerful reminder that our efforts directly contributed to the well-being of these creatures, providing them with a chance to heal and, hopefully, be released back into the wild.
About Holly’s Haven Wildlife Rescue
Holly’s Haven Wildlife Rescue is a lifeline for Ottawa’s wild animals. As a licensed wildlife custodian under the Ministry of Natural Resources, HHWR is authorized to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured or orphaned wild mammals. The rescue operates a wildlife hotline 365 days a year, from 8 am to 8 pm, doing its best to respond to every call about an animal in need. Their work is a vital service, filling a crucial gap in our community’s animal welfare network. Holly’s Haven also advocates for humane and ethical practices, such as urging the public to consider the unintended consequences of rodenticides on wildlife and providing guidance on how to handle situations with orphaned baby animals properly
How You Can Help
For those inspired by our volunteer day, there are many ways to support Holly’s Haven. You can make a direct monetary donation, which goes toward food, medical supplies, and facility maintenance. You can also volunteer your time and skills, assisting with everything from animal care to administrative tasks. For a truly unique contribution, Holly’s Haven is partnered with Donate a Car Canada, accepting vehicle donations that help fund their operations. The impact of the work at Holly’s Haven is immense, and every contribution, big or small, helps them continue their critical mission of protecting our wild neighbours.
Our day at Holly’s Haven Wildlife Rescue was a success, not only for the work we accomplished but for the profound connections we made with the animals and the mission of the organization.
It was a day that perfectly encapsulated the spirit of Cliniconex Gives Back: a day of teamwork, compassion, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the community we call home. We left Holly’s Haven with tired muscles and full hearts, knowing that we had contributed to a cause that is truly making a difference.
